Affirmation processing over FIX – The path to adoption

When the FIX post-trade equity guidelines were updated and republished in 2013, many buy-side and sell-side firms eagerly engaged in the debate to transform the industry. Two years later where have we got to?

Robert Guest

Robert Guest is The Economist’s US Editor, running the coverage and correspondents from London. He was previously Business Editor, authored the magazine’s ‘Lex’ column, spent seven years as Africa correspondent based in Johannesburgh, and reported from Tokyo for The Telegraph. As Business Editor he oversaw The Economist’s global business coverage with a network of on-the-ground correspondents reporting on an array of political, economic and social issues from major market shifts and general elections to small businesses and local politics.  


Brian Moore Brian Moore played for England, the Barbarians and the British Lions, earning 64 caps for his nation. Crowned ‘Rugby World Player of the Year’, he became one of the most respected names in the game - appearing in three World Cups and winning three Grand Slams. Off the field Brian worked as a litigation solicitor - serving as a partner with two London firms. On the field he became known as Pitbull, not just for his pugilistic appearance and ‘hard man’ reputation, but also for his determination and tenacity. 

Edwin Schooling Latter, is Head of Markets Infrastructure and Policy at the Financial Conduct Authority, where his responsibilities encompass the supervision of the UK's exchanges, other trading platforms and both primary and secondary markets policy issues.

 From 2011-2014 Edwin was head of the Financial Market Infrastructure Directorate at the Bank of England, responsiblefor supervision of CCPs, securities settlement systems, and systemically important payment systems, and for the Bank’s input to policy making on central clearing and OTC derivatives reforms.  Prior to appointment as head of MID, Edwin worked in the Bank’s Financial Stability area for several years, including as secretary to the Bank’s Financial Stability Committee.  Edwin was also previously Managing Director of a UK payment system, LINK Interchange Network Ltd.

Scott Atwell is the Manager of FIX Trading and Connectivity for American Century Investments, a leading investment manager committed to delivering superior investment performance and building long-term client relationships since 1958.  Serving investment professionals, institutions, corporations and individual investors, American Century Investments offers a broad array of products across a variety of investment disciplines.  With offices in New York, London, Hong, Kong, Mountain View, Calif. and Kansas City, Mo., the company manages more than $140 billion in assets through mutual funds, institutional separate accounts, commingled trusts and subadvisory accounts.

Mr. Atwell developed American Century’s FIX system providing FIX connectivity to virtually all of the brokers used for their equity trading worldwide.  He currently serves as a Director for the FIX Trading Community organization, the non-profit organization which manages the FIX Protocol.  He has served as Co-chairperson of the Global Steering Committee for FIX Trading Community from 2004 through 2011, has served as Co-chairperson of the FIX Global Technical Committee from 1997 through 2005 and actively participates in several other FIX committees and working groups.

Ade Bajomo, Executive Director, The Nigerian Stock Exchange

Mr. Ade Bajomo is the Executive Director for Market Operations and Technology at the Nigerian Stock Exchange and leads the operations and technology transformation of the leading Sub-Saharan African exchange as it repositions for growth and global leadership through effective exploitation of technology and efficient business and market operations processes. With a wealth of experience and track record in the global financial services sector spanning banking, capital markets, asset management and insurance, Mr. Bajomo has led major transformation and service improvement programmes, participated in business growth initiatives and technology and operations integration of acquired entities in the sector. Prior to joining The Exchange, he worked at Barclays Bank PLC., leading the Replatforming Programmes for Africa and Indian Ocean region to achieve significant technology and business operations benefits in the region.

Mr. Bajomo has also held several director level/leadership positions in the UK financial services sector, including Technology Director at Fortis Bank UK, Head of IT Systems and Strategy at Pearl Insurance UK and management roles at Deutsche Bank and Morgan Grenfell Asset Management.

He is a regular speaker at international exchange technology events with over 23 years of professional experience and is a chartered member of the British Computer Society.

Richard Balarkas is an independent consultant regarded as a leading pioneer in electronic trading and the development of market structure. Positions held include CEO of Instinet Europe, Managing Director of Credit Suisse/Global Head of AES Sales, Global Head of ElectronicTrading Credit Suisse First Boston, COO for equity trading BZW,  Head of Retail Trading BZW, founder and CEO of the City Group for Smaller Companies (CISCO), Head of National Market Development at the London Stock Exchange, Project Manager Cap Group plc. He is a graduate of the University of Warwick.

 Mr Balarkas has served as the global co-chair of Fix Protocol and is currently a Director of FIX Trading. In October 2012 he received a special award from Financial News for personal contribution of the decade. His views have been cited by many major media organisations and he continues to be a featured speaker at industry conferences. 


Dr. Robert Barnes, Co-Chair EMEA Regional Committee, FIX Trading Community, CEO, Turquoise 

Robert Barnes is Chief Executive of Turquoise, the European multilateral trading facility majority owned by London Stock Exchange Group in partnership with the user community. Prior to his joining in August 2013, he worked at UBS from February 1994, gaining experience as yellow jacket on the Liffe derivatives trading floor and most recently as CEO of UBS MTF and Managing Director, Equities. His industry roles include serving as Chairman, 2004-2009, of the Securities Trading Committee of the London Investment Banking Association and participating on key advisory and policy groups within the financial services sector. Robert holds a BA from Harvard, a PhD from Cambridge, and is a Chartered Fellow and Board Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.


Nikki Beattie, CEO, Market Structure Partners

Niki Beattie has more than 20 years of capital markets experience, particularly focusing on capital markets infrastructure and the impact of regulation.  She spent 17 years working in investment banking and became Managing Director and Head of EMEA Market Structure at Merrill Lynch International before founding Market Structure Partners, a strategic consulting firm specializing in the structure of capital markets. 

Niki also has a number of Non Executive Board roles; she is Chairman of Aquis Exchange, and a member of the Boards of Moscow Exchange, Cheuvreux International Limited and IRESS Limited.  Alongside these roles, she also sits on the Consultative Working Group to ESMA’s Secondary Markets Standing Committee and is a member of the UK FCA’s Regulatory Decisions Committee.


Luke Beeson, Vice President, Security UK and Global Banking & Financial Markets, BT

Luke Beeson is Vice President of Security for BTs UK and Global Banking and Financial Markets customers.  He is a Chartered Engineer and member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.  Prior to joining BT Luke worked for Honeywell on Industrial Security projects in the Oil and Gas sector, predominantly in the Middle East.

Since joining BT eight years ago he has had a number of roles all with a focus on Service Delivery and more recently Security Service Delivery. 

Previously General Manager of BTs Cyber Defence Operations Luke spent two years in this role building and running a team of Security experts to counter the ever increasing cyber security threat.

Before this Luke was General Manager of BTs Metal Theft Task Force responsible for all BTs activities to minimise the impact of cable theft on its customers.  As well as driving a number of internal initiatives to minimise the service impact of cable theft he also worked externally with Industry partners, Law Enforcement Agencies and Government to help increase the level of collaborative working to tackle the problem ultimately resulting in changes to legislation. 

As Vice President, Security UK and Global Banking and Financial Markets Luke is now working to take BTs continually evolving security capability to market.

 Rob Boardman

Rob Boardman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, EMEA, ITG 

Robert Boardman is Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for ITG in Europe and is responsible for the strategic development of the company. Before his current appointment he successfully led the algorithmic business in Europe and more recently spearheaded ITG’s electronic trading offerings. 

Prior to joining ITG in April 2006, Boardman spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs where he held various positions, including executive director in the electronic transaction services sales team. He also led a team in implementing direct market access, algorithmic trading and arbitrage strategies for institutional investors and hedge funds. 

Robert Boardman was educated at Oxford University where he gained undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in particle physics. 

 Andrew Bowley

Andrew Bowley, Head of Market Structure Strategy, Nomura

Andrew is responsible for leading Nomura's Market Structure strategy across all asset classes, encompassing interactions with industry groups and regulators and working with the internal trading teams to position the business to adapt and thrive in the future regulatory landscape.  This role has at its heart the structural changes that MiFID II will drive, and responsibility for setting up the Global Markets businesses for those changes.

Previously Head of Business Operations & Risk at Instinet Europe Ltd, a Nomura company. Responsible for Operations, Technology, Product, and Risk, and for managing the migration of Nomura's equity execution franchise to Instinet.  Before that responsible for the Equities Electronic Trading business at Nomura, offering extensive algorithmic trading and smart order routing capabilities, including the leading high frequency trading brokerage service. Responsible for the product development of client trading solutions, including managing the creation and operation of NX MTF, the first investment bank based dark MTF, and also the Nomura SI. 

 Dr. Sandra Bramhoff

Dr. Sandra Bramhoff, Senior Vice President, Market Development, Deutsche Börse

Dr. Sandra Bramhoff is Deutsche Boerse's market microstructure expert and responsible for the coordination of MiFID II Level 2 project for its cash market and other regulatory initiatives such as financial transaction tax and high frequency trading related topics. She first joined the industry in 2003 as a graduate trainee at Deutsche Bank. In 2006 she moved on to Deutsche Boerse Group where she initially helps firms raise capital through the primary markets. She also played a key role in the development of Deutsche Borese's segment for small and medium sized companies (Entry Standard). In 2010 she joined the London office, initially as a relationship manager where she was looking after major brokers/banks and high frequency trading firms in the UK and Scandinavia. During that time she was also part of the project team that was consulted to deliver input for regulators during the attempted global merger between NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Boerse. Since 2012 Sandra has been instrumental in the firm's responses on several regulatory issues (e.g. MiFID II Level 1, ESMA guidelines etc.). She also played a vital role in the successful implementation of the German High Frequency Trading Act.

Niall Cameron, Head of Markets, EMEA, HSBC Bank plc

Niall was appointed Head of Markets, EMEA in June 2014.  He joined HSBC as Global Head of Credit Trading in 2010 from Markit Group, a global financial information services company where he was Global Co-Head of Equities, Indices, Commodities, Risk Management and Economics since 2007.  Niall has extensive experience within the financial markets industry.  He worked at ABN AMRO for 7 years as Global Head of Traded Markets where he was responsible for the bank’s Trading, Sales, and Research businesses in Fixed Income, Equities and Foreign Exchange.  Niall previously worked at Merrill Lynch, SG Warburg and IBJ International

With 15+ years working within both buy-side and sell-side financial institutions, Yuval Cohen accomplished IT executive with extensive management and leadership experience

Yuval’s cross assets wide experience specializing in systems for cash equities, listed derivatives (futures options and strategies), FX and Fixed Income (both Rates & Credits); In addition, Yuval experience in ownership of the full development lifecycle including analysis of requirements, establishing design approaches, development, implementation, testing, customer support and enhancements.

Yuval has wide ranging experience in complex financial trading workflows: Pre-trade, trade and post-trade, including: portfolio construction optimizers, matching engines, exchange gateways, order-management, algorithmic trading, tiering engines and reporting

Adam is the Head of Baring Asset Management's global dealing team  with responsibility across all asset classes. He joined Barings in March 2010 from Atticus Capital (2004-2010) where he held the position of Managing Director, Global Head of Trading. Adam started his career in 1985 as a junior trader on the floor of the London Stock Exchange with Scott Goff Layton & Co before moving to GT Management (1987- 1994) in London and then Hong Kong. Adam moved to Bear Stearns Asia in 1994. Adam returned to London in 1998 before joining Instinet (1999-2004) as a European sales trader. Adam is an individually Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and in 1990 was the first Member of the London Stock Exchange to be elected from a non-member Firm. Adam is Joint Chair of the Fix Protocol EMEA Investment Management Working Group. 

James Cooper, Head of Execution, Troy Asset Management

James heads the dealing desk at Troy, a UK Long Only asset manager specializing in Global Balanced and UK Equity Income mandates. Before Troy James held a similar position for nine years at  Societe Generale. Previously he worked in sales, equity research and trading at BZW in London and New York, and for La Caisse des Depots in Paris. James graduated from Exeter University in 1991.

Laura started her career over eighteen years ago at Risk Magazine, Incisive Media’s specialist derivatives journal, where she worked as Marketing Director. After five years she moved to Thomson Financial ESG, which later merged with DTCC to form Omgeo. While at Omgeo she was responsible for the development of marketing strategy and programs for the firm’s post-trade processing solutions for equities in the European, Middle East, and African markets. She later moved into a product management role, where she oversaw the development of new products, and the associated market development efforts for those products. Today, Laura is Director of Market Development at Traiana, an ICAP company, where she is responsible for expanding Traiana’s post-trade capabilities into new asset classes including cash equities, fixed income and equity derivatives. Laura is an active member of FIX Protocol Ltd and is currently Co-Chair of the Post Trade Working Group. She holds a BA (Hons) in International Marketing Management, and has studied at the School of Economics in Amsterdam.

Sassan Danesh has 20 years' experience assisting capital markets institutions to grow their OTC market franchise by optimising the business performance of their technology offerings. Sassan's more recent focus is on the role of technology in addressing industry-wide issues. James Della-Porta is Head of European Fixed income E-Distribution for Barclays. Based in London, James is responsible for the strategy, e-sales and business development of the European fixed income electronic trading franchise. Lucas Fowler, Director, MACD

Lucas Fowler graduated from the University of Exeter (UK) with a degree in Physics with Solid State electronics. He then moved to Aachen (DE), where he worked for IBM and joined MACD in 1999.

He has worked on numerous consulting projects throughout Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

He became involved in FIX in 2001 when MACD added FIX connectivity for banks as an efficient way to connect to SIX Swiss Exchange. Since then he has worked on a wide range of FIX on-boarding projects both for customers of MACD and for large investment banks.


Brian Godins, Managing Director, Global Head Equities OperationsHSBC Bank plc

Brian joined HSBC on 17th September 2007 and during this time has run Global Fixed Income change, European Fixed Income and Equity Securities Operations, Global Equities Securities and currently manages Global Equities Operations covering cash equities, prime finance, equity derivatives and asset services. Prior to joining HSBC, Brian worked at Morgan Stanley for 13 years, working in predominantly Run the Bank and Change roles in Operations across all asset classes, as well as time in Technology.

Currently Brian is Chairman of the AFME (The Association for Financial Markets in Europe) Transaction Management Committee. Over the years Brian has worked on industry initiatives across the Securities arena, and continues to work with a number of industry bodies, market associations and vendors.

Jim Kaye is the Product Development Manager for the European Execution Services business at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Jim spent eight years at Goldman Sachs as the European product manager for the REDIPlus EMS. Before that, he worked at UBS firstly as a project manager in equity operations, then as product development manager for the electronic execution business.

Jim has been involved in FIX since 2001. He chaired the Allocations Working Group during the FIX 4.4 design phase, resulting in a comprehensive extension of and update to the post-trade capabilities of the FIX protocol. He is currently co-chair of the EMEA Business Practices Subcommittee and Trade Data Standardisation Working Group, working on best practice business and data standards for various aspects of FIX usage, risk management and the European consolidated tape.


Rob Laible, Co-Chair Asia Pacific Regional Committee, FIX Trading Community, Global Head of Execution & Quantitative Services, Liquidnet

Rob joined Liquidnet in July 2014 as Head of Execution & Quantitative Services (EQS). In this role, Rob is primarily responsible for leading and driving the marketing, sales, execution, and servicing of Liquidnet’s algorithmic trading services, execution desks and analytics as well as management of its liquidity partner relationships. He works collaboratively with the sales, technology and product development teams across all regions.

Rob brings more than twenty years of highly relevant and varied experience. Chris Marsh is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Equities division, based in London. He is responsible for AES Product development and Trading in Europe. 

Mr. Marsh joined Credit Suisse in August 2000 from Merrill Lynch Japan where he was a trader in the Equity Derivatives team, creating and trading specialized derivatives products for clients.  Prior to that, Mr. Marsh worked at Mitsubishi Electric in Osaka Japan designing vision based controlling systems for industrial robots.

Mr. Marsh holds a bachelors degree in Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. 

 Stephen McGoldrick

Grew up in Scotland. Won a scholarship to study at University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business then graduated from Edinburgh University with a joint honours LLb (Law and Accounting). Staying in Edinburgh he entered finance in 1990 as an analyst in NatWest's Equity Quants team, working on indices then derivative and portfolio risk. Spent 1992-99 as a derivatives broker with responsibility for developing and selling clearing and the related technology platform, transferring with the team to Deutsche Bank. Moved to eCommerce in 1999 then into equity market connectivity and responsible for algorithms before taking on current responsibility for European market structure in 2006. This role has led to involvement in several equity market structure initiatives, consultative groups and becoming a Board member on the Turquoise MTF, chairing AFME’s Securities Trading Committee and Co-chairing FPL’s Regulatory Subcommittee.  Stephen's motivation and remit, is to improve, or increasingly to avoid  a decline in,  market efficiency. Greatest career achievement is finding a job he loves in The City of London while avoiding having to relocate from Edinburgh where he lives with his wife, 3 children,  2 whippets and 2 ferrets.

Ciaran O'Flynn is a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he is Global Co-Head of Fixed Income Electronic Trading.  Alongside this he is a Board Member of both the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), and the ERIS Futures Exchange.

Prior to his current role Ciaran was Co-Head of European Rates Flow Trading with responsibility for European and UK based trading of Swaps, Governments and Agencies.

Ciaran has been with the Firm since 1992 when he joined as an IT analyst.  He moved to Fixed Income in 1996 and was an interest rate market-maker for over 17 years in products including Repo, Agencies, Covered Bonds, Governments and Sovereign CDS, predominately in London but including three years trading in Tokyo.

Ciaran has a First Class honours BComm from University College Cork in Ireland, and travelled for 2 years prior to joining Morgan Stanley. 

 Michael Parslow

Michael Parslow, Director, Head of EMEA Commission Sharing,  Credit Suisse

Michael Parslow is a Director within the Equities department at Credit Suisse based in London. Michael has worked at CS for a total of 14 years and is currently responsible for managing for the European based CSA business as well as being the Equities business lead on the recent regulatory initiatives on dealing commissions. Michael has been an active participant in the AFME industry body meetings on dealing commissions and has taken a key role with regards to sell side developments around research pricing. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree and is a Fellow of Certified Chartered Accounts Association (FCCA).


David Pearson, Co-Chair Global Post-Trade Working Group, FIX Trading Community, and Head of Post-trade Strategy, Fidessa

David is responsible for innovating new business ideas across the global Fidessa buy- and sell-side community. This is based on the evolution of new business processes and workflows that reflect the changing regulatory environment and the practical realities of capital markets today. He provides detailed and broad-ranging input into the restructuring of business flows across financial markets, from pre-trade through to post-trade and middle office environments.

David joined Fidessa in 1994 and his previous roles with the firm have included implementation and project management, business analysis and solutions architecture. As head of new business marketing for Europe he played a pivotal role in building Fidessa's sell-side managed services business in Europe.

Prior to Fidessa David worked at a number of brokerage firms in London, gaining considerable experience of the workflow on the trading floor and the technology that supports it.

David is currently Co-chair of the FIX Trading Community's EMEA Post-trade Working Group, and is actively involved in the global industry debate regarding the future of electronic confirmation models.

 Lee Sanders

Lee Sanders, Head of Exectuion FX & MM and UK & Asia Fixed Income Trading, AXA Investment Managers 

Lee is primarily responsible for foreign exchange and money market execution globally, and also oversees fixed income trading in the UK and Asia.

In 1991 Lee joined Sun Life Investment Management (which became part of AXA IM) as a member of the US equities team, moving into the fixed income team in 1994 as an analyst and from 1996 as an investment manager.  In 2002, he moved to Trading & Securities Financing (TSF) to help establish fixed income, foreign exchange and money market dealing.  In 2006, all pan-European FX trading was incorporated into TSF.  Lee also worked with the business to develop electronic systems and oversee transaction cost analysis activities.  In 2010, TSF created a desk to handle our global MM business and in 2012 Lee was given responsibility for fixed income execution in the UK and Asia working with the global head of FX execution.

Lee left school after A-levels and worked in the equities markets for a number of years before joining Sun Life Investment Management in 1991.

 Richard Semark

Richard Semark, Managing Director - Equities Execution Client Relationship Management, UBS 

Richard Semark is responsible for Equity Execution Strategy and Head of UBS MTF. He works with clients to ensure they receive the best of UBS execution services, technology and liquidity. As Head of UBS MTF his responsibility is to provide a high quality liquidity pool for the benefit of UBS clients and direct members.

Richard joined in June 2004 as a Managing Director responsible for UK to UK Sales Trading. He previously worked at AXA Investment Managers and UBS Asset Management for 17 years.  Richard has previously served as a Director of Turquoise and was a member of the IMA dealing group. He is currently on the AFME Equities Board.

Richard is a key contributor to UBS strategy on Market Structure and Regulation and has contributed to a number of publications and conferences on these and other equity trading topics.

Arjun is the Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs (Institutional & Capital Markets) at the Investment Association, where he works on all capital markets and dealing-related issues. Prior to this, Arjun was the Head of EU Affairs at the British Bankers’ Association. Arjun has previously worked at the European Commission and started his career at Canada’s financial services regulator, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions. He completed his PhD and Master’s degree at the London School of Economics and his Bachelor’s degree in Canada and Germany.

 Roland Spurr

Roland Spurr is responsible for all operational aspects of the AB Equity Research and Portfolio Management business in Europe, as well as joint operations for the Global Equity business.  He joined AB in 2007 and has a background in both private client and institutional asset management in the UK and South Africa.  As the broker relationship manager for AB, Roland has been at the forefront of the discussions on the changing regulatory environment governing the use of dealing commissions, and his firm’s responses to local and international regulators and trade industry bodies. 

 Paul Squires

Paul Squires is Head of Trading within the Trading and Securities Financing (TSF) team at AXA Investment Managers. He has held this position since 2006.

The Trading team consists of 32 traders, in Paris, London, Greenwich (CT, US) and Hong Kong, covering equities, fixed income, FX and Money markets (including derivatives in all asset classes) with annual execution volumes of nearly €600bn.

Paul started his professional career as a UK equity trader for Mercury Asset Management (now Blackrock) in 1993, before becoming a UK Equity Trader for Sun Life Investment Management in 1996 (subsequently taken over by AXA-IM) and going on to trade European equities there in 1999.

In 2003 he headed up the newly created Fixed Income Trading Team in the UK

Paul graduated with a BA (Hons) from Reading University and holds both the IMC and the SFA Registered Representative qualifications.

He is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Smartpool Trading Ltd and co-Chair of the EMEA Investment Managers’ Working Group of the Fixed Trading Community

 Robin Strong

Robin Strong, has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.  His responsibilities include defining and managing business development and client adoption strategies for EMEA.  He is responsible for managing the EMEA sales and relationship management teams and enhancing the Linedata client experiences across the front-office suite of products including Linedata Longview, Linedata Compliance and Linedata TraderÌ

Prior to his current role, Robin spent nearly five years as Director of Buy Side Market Strategy at Fidessa, where he had oversight for sales strategy and account management for their buy-side product line, including the LatentZero product suite.  He was also responsible for notable product innovations, including spearheading the company’s IBOR solution.  Prior to that, he held Head of Sales and Marketing and Product Management roles at Citadel (CADIS) and Asset Control.   Robin also spent four years at Charles River Development where he was Principal Architect and managed their pre-sales team.  Robin began his career at Salomon Brothers Investment Bank in London.

Robin is a recognized speaker at industry conferences on the future of buy-side technology, compliance and electronic trading.  Robin also sits on the FIX Protocol global steering committee and chairs the Membership Services committee.

 Piebe Teeboom

Piebe Teeboom, Senior Policy Advisor - Strategy, Policy and International Affairs Division, Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets

Piebe is a senior policy advisor in the Strategy, Policy and International Affairs Division of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), where he works on secondary markets issues. The focus of his work is on MiFID-II, algorithmic and high frequency trading, trading venues, and market structure. He is the co-author of the AFM report on high frequency trading (2010) and is a member of the ESMA Taskforce on Microstructural Issues, where he is involved in the drafting of the MiFID-II level-2 measures regarding algorithmic trading. As a member of the same ESMA group he also previously worked on the development of the ESMA Guidelines on Systems and Controls for Automated Trading.


David Tetteh, CEO, CAL Brokers Limited

David is a Stockbroker by profession and is the CEO of CAL Brokers Limited, a Licensed Dealing Member of the Ghana Stock Exchange. He is also the President of the Ghana Stockbrokers Association.

He has been working in Ghana’s Capital market in the last 11 years and has served on various committees including the GSE Automation Committee, Central Securities Depositary Committee as well as the Listing and Finance Committee of the GSE Council.

His work in the Capital Market has mainly been in Stockbroking, Investment Advisory, Fund Management and Corporate Finance.

He is responsible for setting up the first online stock trading terminal in sub-Saharan Africa – ibroker- which provides direct market access to the Ghana Stock Exchange. He is an advocate for Domestic Direct Investment and speaks regularly at seminars and workshops on Investments.

David is an entrepreneur and an advocate in the use of ICT’s for development. He founded Finlite Group Limited – an EdTech company and co-founded Sahel Grains Limited – a commodity trading & processing company based in Techiman.

He also serves on the boards of Odweanoma Rural Bank and is a trustee of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association Fund (Nurses Fund).  He also lectures regularly on the Securities Courses organized by the GSE and has guest lectured at the University of Ghana Business School. 

Dr Christian Voigt, Senior Regulatory Adviser, Fidessa

Prior to joining Fidessa in 2012, Christian was Vice President at Deutsche Börse AG concentrating on business development for institutional equity markets.

Christian began his career as a scholar at the European Business School in Germany, where he obtained his doctorate degree and was published in peer reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Trading, on empirical issues in Market Microstructure.
